House on the Rock

During a camping trip in August of 2008 we decided to visit The House on the Rock in Wisconsin.
For those who haven't heard about this place or been there, I recommend you take a trip this spring/summer.   The “house” itself is atop Deer Shelter Rock, a column of rock
approximately 60 feet tall, 70 feet by 200 feet on the top, which stands
in a forest nearby.
Upon entering it is hard not to be overwhelmed, there are so many objects it is hard to capture in words or photographs. Even though it attracts numerous tourists each year the house itself is dusty, windowpanes are cracked and books look to be water damaged.  The collections are not in order and not curated.  There are no informative cards about the displays, even if there was it would be too hard to read them in the dim lighting.  All this said, it is still definitely worth seeing; however it might be frightening for small children.
This is an ultimate example of a hoarder, there are so many collections.  Below are some pictures of the fan collection, a room devoted to doll houses and the antique automaton orchestras.
